Psalm 143 is David praying to God during a time when he felt hopeless, discouraged, uncertain and empty. His circumstances were weighing heavy on him and he just wanted God to give him some kind of reassurance and instruction. David was overwhelmed. He was pleading with God to get him out of his situation. While David was going through this period of isolation, desolation, and helplessness, he said he would remind himself of all the times God had protected him, provided for him, fought for him, and in his love forgiven him. He was yearning for and wanting desperately for God to encourage him. He went on to say that he thirsts for God. In Verse 8, it’s as if David is saying, “When I wake up every morning, show me You so I will know what to do then, I can get through the day because I trust You and I need You”.
This is the heart we should have at all times, not just when we are discouraged or going through a crisis. We should wake up every morning yearning for God, thirsting for God, seeking God’s instructions for the day. We certainly should greet each day in time with God. When we are experiencing difficulty, we should do as David did and remind ourselves of all the times God has shown us His love and faithfulness and be renewed by the acknowledgement of such.
God has promised to walk with us through everything. When we trust Him, we can rest assured He will answer our prayers. We don’t have to settle in hopelessness, discouragement, uncertainty, or helplessness. God will bring our souls out of distress and revive us when we seek Him. Choose to trust Him and seek Him even in the deepest, darkest, hardest times or situations. The harder the situation, the bigger the triumph if we simply trust Him and don’t give in, don’t give up. Stick it out because God is the only friend who will never let us down.
