Romans 12:2-3
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Life can be difficult at times. As infants and toddlers, all of our cares are tended to and we grow to the next phase without any realization of life situations. In the second phase, as children and teens, we begin to experience the fun and excitement in life while also learning of the negatives; pain, heartache, disappointment, and losses. As we continue our journey into adulthood, life continues to show us the good and the bad. None of us are exempt from this reality. However, how we process both determines who we are.
There are always distinguishing factors that regulate how we process our experiences. Our family beliefs and culture, neighborhood, religion, school environment, or the many social media influences are all vices which may play a vital part in how we individually process our experiences. Therefore, it may be necessary to deprogram ourselves when we find that those influences may have been inadequate, inappropriate or simply wrong. Each of us are masterpieces created by God in His own image. We were shaped with sound mind and a pure heart which enables us to erase from our personality, all things that hinder our peace of mind and our spiritual growth. It may be uncomfortable at first to admit that some things you have been taught are not in alignment with the word of God, but the discomfort soon vanishes and is replaced with the peace of God when you allow truth to prevail. Once we have God’s peace and God’s truth planted, we can clearly process both the good and the not so good experiences in a manner that works for us rather than against us. Positive experiences confirm God’s presence and give us things to reflect on during the unpleasant times so that we have hope. Negative experiences also confirm God’s presence as His glory is revealed through it. Those experiences become opportunities to pray for change in the people or the world around us and possibly those experiences may show areas for spiritual growth within ourselves. Every life experience offers an opportunity, we just have to pay attention to which opportunity has presented itself.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you know me better than I could ever know myself. You have been with me and know all of my experiences. As Psalm 139: 23, 24 reads, Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Lord, I want to know what is right and I want to live a life that is reflective of my good heart. Help me to be the person You created me to be. Uproot any incorrectness my experiences have planted within me. Please purify my thoughts, heal my hurt, and change me while You teach me. Thank You God for showing me who I was created to be and helping me to be that person. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
